Tom works on AI capabilities and evaluation methodology, including time horizon metrics, benchmark analysis, and modeling recursive self-improvement. Previously he was an economist on OpenAI’s Economic Research team, where he co-authored research on how people use ChatGPT. Before that he worked as an economist and data scientist at Facebook and Twitter, and an assistant professor at IIES Stockholm. He holds a PhD in economics from the London School of Economics.
