Rif joined METR in September 2026. Previously, he worked at Google as a Principal Research Scientist and Director, moving between leader, manager, and individual contributor roles over the years. He holds a PhD in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has published on a wide range of topics, including theoretical and applied machine learning, computational biology, Bayesian methods, audio classification, text-to-speech, and AI safety.
