Before joining METR, Lawrence did research on mechanistic interpretability and adversarial training at Redwood Research. Lawrence was also a PhD student at UC Berkeley with the Center for Human- Compatible AI and InterACT Lab. He holds degrees in Computer Science and Business from the University of Pennsylvania, where he did research with the Good Judgment Project on using ML to assist forecasting.
